After some investigation I have decided that I would like to play full thrust and would like some advice on getting started.

The main question I would like answering is what size of fleet to start with. I would also like any other tips gamers can give me.

Ground Zero Games do a bunch of "special" packs for their games, these work out as a good way of putting together the core of a fleet. Skip the ones that include the printed rules as:
1) The PDF versions are available for free from the GZG website.
2) They are going out of print, a new re-structured version is planned.

For my Japanese fleet I went for the carrier group (FT-PAK-2, £15) plus a few extra ships, a super dreanought (£10), a heavy cruiser (£3) and a pack of two sensor ships (£2). This is enough for a minimal fleet but you probably want a bit more. We don't normally play with sensor rules, I just liked the models Wink

Between Dave & Dan we have four large fleets that normally make it to the club every week, in case they are needed. From memory, these are NAC, ESU, UNSC and Kra'Vak. So if you want to play one of those fleets you may prefer to go down the pub more with the time and money you can save by using their models Cool

There are some other fleets people have that are either small or don't come to the club as much (e.g. Sa'Vasku, Phalon, Japanese)

Its probably worth playing a few games with other people ships so you can try to work out what sort of fleet suits your playing style.

We do get a GZG discount, talk to one of the committe at a club meeting for more info.

Hope that helps,

Andy M

Thanks for the advice. Smile

I may get the new fleet starter pack (which does not contain the rules) either for the NSL (I hope I got that right if I didn't I mean the germans) or the UNSC (I'll buy my own so I can customise it to my tastes) Cool

Id suggest the best option would be to come to the club on a night when they are playing and try the different races to see which suits you. See roughly how many points you want and then match that to starter packs available from GZG
